Alys Smith, founder of Better2Mediate, offers her mediation services to people seeking conflict resolution as an alternative to litigation. In addition, she has served as a mediator in many Northern California courts and privately since 2012.
She received a B.S. from The Ohio State University in 1983 and a J.D. in 1986 from The University of Akron School of Law. Beginning in 1986, she worked as a trial attorney for the Ohio Attorney General and for several law firms in Ohio, Connecticut, and New Jersey. From 2000 to 2002, she also worked as an in-house counsel for Hoover Manufacturing Group in Alpharetta, Georgia.
Alys has previously practiced law in the areas of Workers’ Compensation, Personal Injury, Insurance Defense and coverage, Product Liability, Consumer Protection, Employment, Contracts, Child Abuse, Landlord tenant, and General Business disputes
Since 2005, Alys has worked in several non-profits in the areas of education and adolescent counseling, has served as a mentor, and has been a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for many young Latina women.
Alys and her husband, Brad, are co-founders of a charitable foundation, Wing 2 Wing Foundation that focuses on education, entrepreneurship and equal opportunities for all in the overlooked zip codes, primarily in West Virginia and Ohio.
